Every time I come under the big trees, I feel home again.

As a child my family spent most of our weekends under the big trees on a piece of property we owned with other families.
My siblings, friends, and I would spend those days covered in dirt, jumping in swamps, and climbing trees. There was nothing like the feeling of having the giants looming over us like a protective motherly roof. I have always felt safer there than I ever have in the city. The woods for me have always been a place where food is free and your shelter is what you make of it. I hope that for a thousand generations to come these places are kept and held sacred.

Wonderful atmosphere! I feel the same way, here the big trees are Eucalypts but they still have the same effect. They still communicate with you in their own way.

This is such a beautiful picture, with the sun rays passing through the trees:-) I think you got the "right" atmosphere, trees are indeed one of the most wonderful "creatures" on Earth, keeping our history. Too bad they can't really share it with us.

Thank you! They can certainly tell us a lot about it. We have found ways to use tree cores to date and follow back thousands of years and can used the lines to note what each year was like for the tree. Thus we can follow what temperatures changes happened and how nutrient levels were for the tree. They have used new tree cores like bar codes to match up the dates of old petrified wood. It is a really neat process!
I am glad to have standing groves protected by people. They represent something that a lot of people don't have heavy access to anymore but make sure that we still have a place to see and find them!
