Description

Goodness!, It has been a crazy week! and I feel like I have been neglecting putting something up for you all. Just a quick recap of all the crazy:
I put my silly little bird video up on my youtube channel here: [link] and it exploded across the internet. It got featured on tons of sites, including Tastefully Offensive, reddit, g4tv, and buzzfeed ect.
Now I think I just signed papers for a youtube partnership equivalent. It's all moving so fast. 0_0

Anyways here is one of my favorite images from the Coast!

POSITIVE REMARKS:
This coast-line is absolutely beautiful, there is not a thing about it which I would have changed at all. I love how dirty, how desolate, it looks, but how colorful it manages to be nonetheless.
The model's make-up is really nice; along with the lighting, it gives her face a similar set of colors to the beach itself, and also highlights some of the more interesting features of her face. The denim of the dress sticks out, but because of its worn look, it does not seem out of place.

This dress, this beach, the unique beauty of the model, all of it adds together to make a conceptually original piece, with a very fascinating set of feelings behind it. I was enticed by it as soon as I saw the thumbnail.

CRITICAL REMARKS:
The dress, though it is the major contributing agent in the originality of this piece and the greatest potential contributing agent in the technique and impact of this piece, is what currently holds it back, in my opinion. Had this model been wearing a short, white dress, a la Marilyn Monroe, her current wind-swept position would be all the more beautiful. Further more, the white of her hypothetical dress and her position would contrast with the gritty coast-line (the juxtaposition looks fantastic, in my head). At this point, because her dress matches the gritty, unique beach in it's concept, the model's position looks all too contrived. It does not help that it looks like the denim was a bit too heavy of a material to flow just right in the wind.
If the model had been posed differently, if she looked more coy or gritty, perhaps holding a tattered denim parasol over one shoulder or leaning against a stolen, tattered denim convertible car, maybe even setting her husband's tatter denim house on fire to collect the tattered denim insurance, this might have worked better. As is, though, I am content to give above-average ratings in only the conceptual categories of the critique system.

CONCLUSION:
You really have done a fantastic job, here. The more critical things I think to say, the more I actually like this piece. It is clear that the two people who put this piece together have firm grasps of their respective arts, and both command respect from me.
The mean of 3.5, 4, 3, and 2.5 is some stupid number like 3.25 or something, which is the overall score for this piece. It is also whole .75 above average, which is better than my high school GPA was.

I hope these words are helpful to you-- if I've said anything that seems odd or confusing or offensive, please do not hesitate to ask me to clarify or send me death threats.
My final commandment is this:
make more art.
